Dental Implants: A Permanent Solution

by Dr. Vareldzis

Hello and welcome to another September edition of the Hillcrest Family Dentistry blog!

We all know how much fun Fall can be in Medford, Oregon. But you may not feel much like smiling if you are living in the aftermath of tooth loss as an adult.

The good news for you is that a dental implant procedure can change your situation by restoring your health, your self-assurance, and, of course, your smile! Really, it’s like magically growing a new tooth!

Today our plan is to discuss dental implants, how they work, and the ways in which they can replicate the look, feel, and function of your original teeth.

Keep reading, and then be sure to get in touch with our team to schedule your consultation with Dr. Vareldzis, our in-house implants expert.

Dental Implants Are Easy…

A dental implant procedure is fairly straightforward. First, our team will completely clean the area to get it ready. Then, Dr. Vareldzis will implant an artificial root made from titanium in your jawbone. Implants resemble a screw on account of the way they are threaded. This is what allows us to attach a wide array of caps, abutments, and oral appliances to them. Titanium is used because it bonds to your jawbone in a process called osseointegration.

It takes a while to heal, sometimes up to six months, but this also allows the root to completely fuse with the bone to give it the permanence and strength you need. Meanwhile, we’ll craft an artificial tooth made to fit the gap perfectly. It’s even matched to your existing teeth color, so no one will ever know it’s not a natural part of your smile.

Finally, Dr. Vareldzis will attach the new “tooth” to the implanted root and you will be good to go!

…And Fully Functional!

Our dental implants are comfortable and functional because they distribute biting force just like natural teeth.

When you are finished with the procedure, you’ll be able to enjoy the foods that make you happy and keep your health on track.

Beyond that, you will get your normal facial structure and full smile back, making you look younger and more vibrant!

They Even Work With Dentures!

If you are tired of loose dentures, implants can even help you with that.

Implant-supported dentures use a bar connected to implants that anchors your dentures in place. Implant-retained dentures are much the same, except that they use ball attachments instead of a bar to secure those dentures.

In either case, our implants can keep your dentures from slipping and sliding!

See If Implants Are For You!

To be a good candidate for implants, you need to have enough bone in your jaw to allow the artificial root to take hold.

If you don’t, mini dental implants can usually solve that problem, or you could get bone grafts with oral surgery so that there’s enough bone to work with.

The other thing is that you also need to have good oral health overall.
